Intervention Overview:
This intervention is particularly suited to Neurodivese participants and those with military experience.
NeuroIdentity Photography is a creative and reflective intervention that uses photography as a medium for exploring, communicating, and celebrating personal identity. Through a combination of photographic practice, guided reflection, and visual storytelling, participants are encouraged to examine the experiences, values, environments, relationships, and personal journeys that have shaped who they are.
Participants are introduced to accessible photographic techniques and creative approaches that support the visual expression of identity. Through a series of themed activities and image-making exercises, they are encouraged to capture photographs that represent aspects of themselves that may be difficult to communicate through words alone. The intervention provides opportunities to explore both visible and invisible elements of identity, including personal strengths, lived experiences, interests, memories, and aspirations.
For neurodiverse participants and veterans, photography offers an alternative means of self-expression that can accommodate different communication styles and perspectives. The creative process encourages participants to reflect on their experiences, recognise the value of their unique viewpoints, and develop a greater sense of self-understanding and confidence. Optional opportunities for sharing and discussing images within a supportive and inclusive environment can further promote connection, empathy, and mutual understanding among participants.
By combining creative exploration with personal reflection, the intervention aims to provide an empowering and meaningful experience that supports self-expression, strengthens identity, and promotes wellbeing through photography.
